Forum announcement

Mr Richard Edelman’s appearance at the World Public Relations Forum will take place via videoconference. We’re very sad to report that Daniel Edelman, his father, is sick and in the hospital. Richard has expressed his regret at being unable to attend in person, as this would have marked his first visit to Australia in more than 15 years. However he is determined to fulfill his commitment to speak at the conference, and in a show of truly cross-border communication, will be presenting his keynote address live via two-way video link.

Given the change in plans, Richard’s speech will be followed by a facilitated discussion. While Richard speaks to us live from New York, we’ll be joined by Edelman Asia Pacific CEO and President, David Brain, and Edelman Australia CEO, Michelle Hutton, who will provide regional and local context for Richard’s challenge to the global PR industry.

Social Media Knowlegde: Dan Kuseta interviews Edelman’s Digital Lead, Alex Lefley

This November some of the world’s most renowned PR professionals will be descending on Melbourne for the World PR Forum.

The two day event will be a mix of panel discussions, talks and plenty of networking opportunities. Keynote speakers include Richard Edelman, Elizabeth Linder from Facebook and Brian Giessen, director at Social@Oglivy.

Alex Lefley from Edelman Australia, who will be present at the event, says that the worlds of PR and social are intertwined.

“PR and social are more interlinked than ever. At Edelman we talk about transmedia storytelling. Traditional media, hybrid sites, your own offering and social. It’s how you use all these together to tell a story.”

Lefley says the event is important because it brings the world of PR closer to Australia.

“Two of the last Cannes Lions have been won by an Australian campaign for a local product. We have some of the best creatives in the world here. The forum is an opportunity to hear from some of the thought leaders in the field.”

And of course, the chance for networking.

“When you get 700 PR’s in a room, there’s going to be some card swapping.”

The World PR Forum is on November 18 – 20 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. For more information and to book tickets visit worldprforum.com.

Communication without borders…or marketplace competition

When it comes to sharing information about global public relations, standards and best practices, it’s great that typical marketplace “competition” borders can be put aside.

Katie Sheppet, account executive at Edelman Melbourne, conducts an atypical PR Conversations tête-à-tête with John Paluszek of Ketchum (USA) and immediate past chair of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management, a featured speaker at this year’s World Public Relations Forum (WPRF).

“Evidence: About 5,000 companies have signed on to the United Nations Global Compact, in which they pledge to operate in concert with the Compact’s 10 principles clustering in environment, human rights, labor rights and anti-corruption. And the related new trend to companies regarding “integrated reporting” is an obvious public relations “sweet spot.””

“In order to achieve global consistency of messages and outcomes, many top corporate communication officers must organize, coordinate, motivate and reward hundreds of employees spread all over the globe.”
